Welcome to Assington's Neighbourhood Plan Page.
In 2018, in response to local demand, the Parish Council begun to prepare a Neighbourhood Plan. The Government encourages parish councils to produce their own Neighbourhood Plans enabling local people to have a say in how their neighbourhood grows and develops.
While severely delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Assington Neighbourhood Plan was formally 'made' (adopted) by Babergh District Council on Wednesday 2nd March 2022, following a referendum on 24th February 2022 where 94.4% of voters were in favour of the plan.
The adopted version of the Plan, details of the referendum and the legal notice of adoption can be found on Babergh's site here: https://www.babergh.gov.uk/planning/neighbourhood-planning/neighbourhood-planning-in-babergh/assington-neighbourhood-plan/
Residents are encouraged to join the village Facebook page, where updates on the plan and implementation of its community actions will be shared. https://www.facebook.com/groups/Assington
The Neighbourhood Plan Team
We were a team of 7 of all different ages and backgrounds and chaired by parish councillor Helen Wallace. Well over 1,000 hours of work went into developing the plan and the Parish Council is grateful to everyone who contributed.
Below you can find all the agendas and minutes from the team's meetings.

In April 2019 we held our third consultation event, with around 70 people from the village attending, giving us their views and opinions and offering some fantastic feedback. We also presented the results from the household questionnaire, which prompted useful further discussion. Anyone who was unable to attend the event can view the consultation boards here:
In early October 2019 we held our fourth consultation event, with more than 50 people from the village attending and taking time to fill in feedback forms which we will use in the next stages of drafting the plan. We also presented the results from the AECOM independent character and sites assessment reports. Anyone who was unable to attend the event can view the consultation boards here:
The display boards from the February 2020 Pre-Submission Consultation launch event can be found below. Well over 70 people attended the event in person and we were pleased to see so many make the time:
